Round one of this years EDVA Ladies Development events took place in Plymouth yesterday. Torexe entered two teams, an adult team and the youngsters, for Sam, Fi and Tiago, it was their first taste of match volleyball.

After the morning quick fire round, the youngsters found themselves in second place in group two, and with a play off match against PMVC Tigers to decide who would take part in the afternoons top group. A real nail-biting match but at the hooter, they had done it by two points and joined the Torexe adults in the top group, who had earlier sailed through the early group one round unbeaten.

This set up two three set matches between the Torexe teams and Plymouth University for the event title. A very competitive afternoon session and although the Torexe youngsters took sets off both Torexe and Plymouth University to set up a deciding third set in both matches. A win did not happen but it was a very well deserved third place finish for round one. First Place went to Torexe, with Plymouth Uni in second.

Eleven teams had entered which gave use eight matches, Bristol University were dispatched first, next up was Taunton, who had beaten us last week in the EDVA league. It was a very tight match but at the final whistle it was 25-24 to Torexe.

Horfield Hornet and Volleywood came and went, then it was the SW U16 Development Squad. Sliced float serves became an issue and we ended up 8 point down at the start, a quick reshuffle gave us a slight advantage and we set about clawing our way back into the match.  It was another nail biting finish but at the hooter the girls had done it by two points.

We were by now the team to watch and the remaining teams  were brushed aside, leaving us as the only unbeaten team and top spot.
